Hi everyone,
Some sense of the end of a gloomy winter came last week with the arrival of our Crazy Daisy CSA brochure for 2009.

Crazy Daisy's Daisy
They are some wonderful new adventures in veggies for us this year and I am so ready for that fresh bounty every week. We are also working on their first cookbook and I hope to have it ready for the 2009 members to have some great new ideas.
Have you looked into CSA shares in your area? I hope so. The shares tend to sell out fast, especially with returning members. Yes, you bet on the odds, but it is worth the chance. No matter, you will come out ahead with knowing you are getting the freshest, healthiest produce available.

Lettuce Week 2
Everyone is feeling the financial pinch in one way or another this year. Our budget is tight this year too, but this is an investment worth considering. In most areas, you can have fresh produce for your family weekly for less than the price of two large pizzas. You will get a better health and dollar return versus the pizzas too
.
There are some places I won’t skimp and quality food for my family is one of them. We can give up something in another part of our budget. Last year, it averaged $17 – $20 a week and we really didn’t buy much produce from the first part of July through the end of September. And, what I did buy for fill-ins, I picked up at our local farmer’s market or co-op with specials. Our CSA can’t support everything, but they came close.
So with gas prices down a bit, take some of that money saved and consider a CSA share. If you can’t find a half-share, see if a friend or family member wants to split a whole share – trust me, you will have plenty of fresh veggies.

Here is a resource for a Minnesota CSA near you. http://www.landstewardshipproject.org/csa.html – 2009 directory will be available February 25, 2009.
Nationally, check out Local Harvest – http://www.localharvest.org/
And of course, our favorite Crazy Daisy Farms.
Take care,
Judy

Hi Judy,
This is a really good idea. With the economy the way it is, I hope people will cut back on the non essentials, but still buy quality food.

Hi Judy,
It was interesting to find one of our local California farms around here on the local harvest link. Knoll Farms in Brentwood is well known. We don’t have the co-ops here but Farmers Markets are very popular. Each week during season we all look forward to checking out all the fresh produce.

I am so ready for spring too and it is now when I have great ideas for the garden. I can’t wait for warmer weather and spring flowers. Great post.
Warmly,
Terri
