“Food is our common ground, a universal experience.” James Beard (1903 – 1985)
When I read that quote I thought immediately that it was a great start to my first blog. Let’s take our local experiences and share them because the love of food is universal.
Hi everyone,
The “local food connection” is more important than ever. Using our natural resources wisely to fuel our bodies and minds is important, especially considering the more frequent food handling problems that affect our health, rising fuel costs, and the negative impact on the local producer. Why not explore the area around you? Everyone can benefit from this adventure.
Our health and that of the environment is a major concern for more people everyday. The rising costs of fuel, food, and basic living catches each one of us in some way. Using our natural resources is also taking its toll. What kind of legacy are we leaving for generations to come?
Some say it is too late. Me personally – I don’t think it is ever too late to consider alternatives to use our resources wisely and to take better care of ourselves and our families. My blog will talk about healthy eating and local food, exploring the world of CSA, sharing recipes and resources. I will also touch on other areas that impact our lives environmentally in big and small ways. Come take this adventure with me – we can learn together. I hope you will also share your ideas with everyone reading this blog about your experiences and findings.
My family and I live west of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Eating fresh local produce is not an easy thing to accomplish from about November through May (weather depending). For me, this is tough as I have lived most of my life on the west coast – fresh fish, produce, and local foods are plentiful through much of the year.
The switch to organic foods has been in the forefront in our home for some time. It is pricey, but we taste the difference, appreciate the quality, and have fewer concerns about the safety of the food we eat. There are times to cut back, but the health of my family is not one of them. We can do without a movie night out, but not a healthy meal.
So, please feel free to leave a comment, share an experience, and check back often for updates.
Take care,
Judy

Hi, Judy,
You talked about the local farmers. Thankfully, we have a neighboring farmer that plants a small field of sweet corn with his usual crops and lets us to get what we want. Between him, our own tomato plants, and the farmer’s market we’re able to have great tasting food that’s more healthy for us.
Have a great day, Judy.
